Another important thing to know before you travel to Indonesia is the different types of visas that have specific requirements. Here are some frequently asked questions to help you with Visa & immigration policies in Indonesia.
What is the Visa Exemption?
Foreign nationals from countries that are included in the 103 Visa-Free Country List are entitled to Visa Exemption and may enter Indonesia from 124 immigration checkpoints and are granted a 30-day stay that cannot be extended. Mandatory requirements include: passport with minimum 6 months validity and return / through tickets.
Visa Exemption Policy
- The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has agreed visa exemption agreements for diplomatic and official passport holders (PBVDD) with 103 friendly countries. The list of countries can be accessed through the link: https://kemlu.go.id/etc/informasi-bebas-visadiplomatik-dan-dinas-antara-republik-indonesia-dan-negara-sahabat.
- Based on the latest regulation on visa exemption visits (BVK), all passport holders from ASEAN member countries, Timor Leste, Suriname, Colombia, and Hong Kong can enter Indonesia without a visa. In addition, the BVK policy also applies to all foreign nationals holding a Singapore permanent residence permit.
- Each foreigner must ensure that their passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Indonesia, and has at least 2 blank pages. Under the visa-free policy, foreigners can stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days and cannot be extended or converted into a residence permit.

Visa Application for Diplomatic, Service and Laissez-Passer Passport Holders
- Foreigners who do not fall under the BVK policy above, but plan to travel with a diplomatic passport, service passport, or Laissez-Passer, may apply for diplomatic and service visas.
- This visa application can be submitted through (1) Visiting the Embassy, Consulate General, or Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia accredited in the respective country of residence, or (2) through the online visa application portal (visa.kemlu.go.id). Foreigners who apply through the online portal are still required to submit a physical passport and collect the visa at the selected Embassy or Consulate.
- Diplomatic and official visa applications are free of charge.
- Delegates applying for diplomatic and service visas must provide: Passport with a validity period of at least 6 months from the scheduled date of arrival in Indonesia and has at least 2 blank pages; Note Verbale for visa application issued by the relevant authority; and Travel ticket.
Visa Application for Ordinary Passport Holders
- Foreigners traveling with ordinary passports can enter Indonesia through one of the following options. Please note that applicable visa fees are the responsibility of each foreigner:
a. Visit Visa on Arrival (VKSK) / Visa on Arrival (VoA): Available to nationals of the 97 countries listed in the VoA scheme. VoA can be applied for prior to departure to Indonesia through the evisa.imigrasi.go.id portal or upon arrival at VoA counters available at all international airports in Indonesia. The VoA fee is IDR 500,000. VoA is also applicable for diplomatic and official passport holders.
b. Visit Visa: Participants from countries that do not qualify for VoA must apply for an entry visa through the nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate. It is highly recommended that this application process is done well in advance of the planned travel dates.
c. E-Visa: Alternatively, foreigners can also apply for an e-visa through the evisa.immigration.go.id portal by paying the visa fee. E-visa is also applicable for diplomatic and official passport holders who are not included in the PBVDD. - Every foreigner applying for an Indonesian e-visa must provide: Passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of scheduled arrival in Indonesia and has a minimum of 2 blank pages; Personal checking account with a minimum balance of US$ 2000 or equivalent in the last 3 months; Travel ticket; and Letter of invitation.
Visa Application for Calling Visa Nationals
- Foreigners from countries with Calling Visa status, must apply for a visa by a Guarantor (Indonesian citizen individual or Indonesian Legal Entity).
- The Guarantor applies for e-visa through evisa.immigration.go.id portal by creating a guarantor account, paying the visa fee, and attending the Calling Visa meeting to provide information. If the visa application is approved, the Guarantor is obliged to be responsible and report all activities carried out by the foreigner while in Indonesia.
- Currently, countries with Calling Visa status include:

Customs Policy
- Foreign passengers on international flights are required to fill out an Electronic Customs Declaration (E-CD) and show the QR Code from the E-CD to the customs officer upon arrival in Indonesia. E-CD can be filled in through the link https://ecd.beacukai.go.id.
